The Lark Quarry Experience

Inside the entry building at the Trackways complex.

Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways are protected on Lark Quarry Conservation Park. Lark Quarry Conservation Park is situated in Jump Up country, a spectacular Spinifex and red earth landscape eroded from ancient lake and stream beds. For information on how to get to Lark Quarry, please have a look at Getting to Lark Quarry.

The Trackways are first approached via the rammed earth entry building containing orientation displays on the history of discovering the Trackways and on the surrounding Jump Up country. Proceed across the entry bridge to the main building where you can join a tour.

Tours of the Trackways

The only way to experience Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways is via a guided tour, for which a fee applies. The tour interprets the Trackways from creation to discovery and display, as well as the surrounding environment and other Cretaceous fossils. Learn about the geological history of the area and how the Trackways were discovered, before proceeding into the Fossil Room to see some of the fossils found locally, from the Cretaceous period – including dinosaur food! Then discover the Trackways for yourself, in the Trackways Viewing Room, where over 3,300 fossilised footprints are on display.

The Spinifex Walk

The Spinifex Walk is a self-guided walking circuit around the Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways complex. A lookout offers spectacular views of rolling Mitchell grass downs framed by the characteristic red earth Jump Ups of the Conservation Park, and a recyclable flyer is available, interpreting the local environment. This 500m track takes about 15 – 30 minutes to complete, and a hat and sunscreen are essential!

The Spinifex Walk is in addition to the Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways guided tour and is free.
